Our goal was clear yet powerful—to provide a safe space for young women to cultivate self-awareness, build confidence, and shape their futures with resilience and purpose.

On the weekend of Women’s Day 2025, we gathered on the serene shores of Pineapple Island, Cambodia, for a transformative Women Empowerment Camp. Over four days, we built a supportive community, shared personal stories, and pushed ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Our goal was simple yet profound—to create a safe space where young women could foster self-awareness, develop confidence, and shape their futures with resilience and determination.

By the end of the camp, those initial fears had blossomed into newfound confidence.

Embracing Empowerment

Through self-esteem workshops, vision board creation, and goal-setting sessions, we explored what it means to lead our own lives. We engaged in meaningful discussions on self-motivation, communication, and the power of setting personal and professional goals. Many participants arrived with concerns—some wondered how they would manage physically demanding tasks without men, while others feared a lack of protection. However, by the end of the camp, those fears transformed into newfound confidence. We realized that women can take on any task in their own way, without needing the same physical strength as men. More importantly, we learned that safety is created through trust and community, not by the presence or absence of men.

Finding Strength in Challenges

The environment of the camp was calm and peaceful, allowing us to open up, share experiences, and exchange cultures. Despite the unexpected challenges of heavy rain and storms, these obstacles only strengthened our bond. We watched out for one another, supported each other through tough moments, and found warmth in our collective resilience.

For many participants, this was their first time attending an outdoor training of this kind. Some had never even considered that such an experience could be possible. Yet, through teamwork and creativity, even simple activities like group cooking became moments of pride, connection, and joy. The engagement of each individual was deeply felt, reinforcing the power of collaboration.

Voices of Strength and Determination

Punleu, 25, shared her perspective:
"As a woman, I see that we can do so many things, from working to raising children. Those who manage both well are truly inspiring. Financial independence allows women to make their own decisions rather than relying on others. However, I have always prioritized safety when traveling or working in new environments, especially as my job requires frequent trips to provinces. The fear of harassment and violence has always been a concern, but this camp showed me that women can navigate these challenges with strength and strategy."

Chanthy, 27, from Kampong Cham, reflected on the flexibility and intelligence of women:
"Women are strategic and resourceful. We find ways to solve problems, even physical ones, without letting limitations hold us back. Women excel in building their own communities and creating safe spaces for others. As a woman working in the tech startup ecosystem, I faced resistance from my family when I wanted to pursue further studies. My mother feared for my safety, worried about the dangers in society. But being here, surrounded by strong and supportive women, reassured me that we are capable of carving our own paths."

We took with us newfound confidence, lasting friendships, and a clear vision for creating change.

A Movement That Continues

Each participant brought her unique perspective, yet together, we cultivated a collective vision of empowerment. As we packed up our tents and bid farewell to Pineapple Island, we left with more than just memories—we carried newfound confidence, friendships, and a roadmap for change.

The journey does not end here. The Women Empowerment Camp is not just an event; it is a movement that continues in every step we take toward self-growth and community upliftment. To every woman who took part, thank you for your courage, your voice, and your strength. Let’s keep empowering each other, today and always.
