Mental and Physical Endurance with Mindfulness Meditation
The hike pushed me to my physical and mental limits. My legs ached, my shoes broke, and at times, I felt mentally drained. But with every challenge, I grew stronger. I embraced the discomfort, learned to live with limited resources, and adapted to eating unfamiliar forest foods, drinking water with new tastes, showering with minimal water, and experiencing many other new things. Each obstacle became an opportunity to develop greater mental toughness and independence. Despite the hardships, I learned to adapt and became more resourceful with the limited resources available to me. I found strength in simplicity and developed a deeper sense of resilience.

Although I didn’t reach the final destination like the other team, the journey itself taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and facing challenges with my teammates. Two of my teammates continued to the final destination as planned, while I decided to pause and return to Camp Site #1 to wait for the larger group. During my wait, from day three to day five, I had more space for "Me Time," which allowed me to meditate and reflect on the beauty around me. Each evening, I meditated near the waterfall, and on other days, I found stillness in the heart of the jungle. The scenery felt like a painting, and the sounds of the waterfall and birds created a calming, natural melody. After meditation, I kept looking at the beauty around me, feeling it had become even more magical - the tall trees, their unique shapes, the thick green plants, and the peaceful surroundings. I found myself unexpectedly falling in love with nature. Though I had been practicing meditation for a while, meditating in such a natural environment was an entirely new experience. It was truly healing, allowing me to clear my mind and let go of stress. I closed my eyes, focused on my breath, and let my thoughts fade.
In that quiet moment, my worries and anxieties - both the daily stresses and deeper ones - seemed to drift away.

Each moment helped improve my mental health. The rhythm of each step, the fresh mountain air, and the peaceful sounds of nature gave me the space to relax and clear my mind. As the days went by, the usual stress and worries began to fade. The quiet beauty of the forest, the stillness of the mountains, and the simplicity of the journey helped me reconnect with myself in a way I hadn’t expected. The challenges of the hike became moments of mindfulness, and I realized how much nature can heal. It felt like a reset for my mind, leaving me feeling lighter, stronger, and more at peace.
Sense of Accomplishment
Three experiences stand out as the most memorable from this adventure. It was my first intense and advanced hiking experience, and I felt incredibly proud of being self-reliant - managing my gear, navigating challenges, and living with limited resources and food. The second moment of pride came when I conquered steep hills and rock climbing on my own. Overcoming my fear of heights during the descent and finally reaching the top of Phnom Srouh was empowering.
The third proud was reaching the summit of Phnom Srouh (ភ្នំស្រួច). The fatigue, physical strain, and countless challenges made it feel even more rewarding. From the top, I saw three mountain ranges stretching before me, with breathtaking views and fresh mountain air. I felt deeply connected to nature, and the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. I felt so close to the sky and the clouds, and every angle offered a stunning view. The fresh air filled my lungs, and in that moment, I felt deeply connected to nature. The excitement and enthusiasm that surged within me were unforgettable. I will never forget the effort it took to reach the summit. It was humbling to realize that not many hikers make it to this remote peak, given the long, difficult trail.

The hike pushed me to my limits, but it also showed me just how strong I could be in the face of adversity. This adventure through the Cardamom Mountains was life-changing - physically, mentally, and spiritually. It taught me to embrace challenges with mental strength, adaptability, resilience, and trust my abilities. Most importantly, I discovered the true gem of nature. What an unforgettable journey!
